One my very first clients came to me because of a surprise bill.
My soon-to-be client needed some unexpected, additional advisory at a pivotal point in her business, as well as special filings, reports and re-structuring. Her business was moving rapidly and she as COO had to pivot, and fast!
Her then-accounting firm, which operated in the same way many accounting firms have been for the last 150 years- billed her piecemeal for everything, down to the half hour and bounced her from junior accountant to junior accountant. At the end of it she got a huge, unexpected and unplanned for bill and she still needed help.
I remember feeling angry when she shared this with me.
I realized then that business owners deserve something better from their accountants. As I worked with more and more entrepreneurs I heard this same story over and over. I quickly realized that entrepreneurs were hungry for a deeper, more ongoing relationship with their tax advisor.
